Tell us about yourself:

I was born in Zimbabwe and grew up near Durban, South Africa. I was active in sports like swimming, water polo, and bodyboarding, later taking up snorkelling and stand-up paddleboarding. After studying Mechanical Engineering, I started my career at a steelworks before becoming a Design Engineer at a company focused on small process plants for university labs. I then moved to an automotive company, working in test and design for air conditioning systems, which involved automating tests with PC interfaces. This experience led me to Halsys, where I joined as a Software Developer. At the time, Halsys had a strong electro-mechanical department, building slide drives and neg feeders for scanners, colour wheels and various automation products in the photography industry. Outside of work, I enjoy watching rugby, am a home mechanic and DIY enthusiast, and have a passion for motorcycles, 3D CAD, and 3D printing.

How long have you been with Halsys?

​

I started with at Halsys in September 2001. I remember vividly the attack of 9/11 happening just a few days after I started.

 

What do you enjoy about working with the team?

​

We are all of a similar mind and pull in the same direction. There is no individual ego, the team truly works together towards a common goal. The individual members of the team are all uniquely talented and competent, it makes coming to work a pleasure.

 

What is your area of expertise?

​

My background is technical, my personal strengths lie in customer service but running a small business requires a jack-of-all-trades.

 

What’s your favourite feature of MaxLab?

​

If I had to choose just one, it would have to be star composites- because this is truly one of the strengths of MaxLab. Setting up a layout just so, combining it with a set of images and data and setting it to run, generating literally thousands of customised pictures, complete with names or other text and individualised for each person. Being a visual person, this is the most exciting feature for me because it has the highest yield of visual output for the input effort.

 

Favourite piece of customer feedback?

​

Don't make me choose! I have heard so many kind words, both by email, instant message and verbally. I love that customers often provide this feedback enthusiastically and without prompt, clearly very appreciative of the team.

 

If you could pick any superpower, what would it be and why?

​

Flying...without a doubt. I'd like to have a birdseye view - be able to see things from a different angle, and I'm sure it would also help on my commute!
