Capture Solutions: The Pros and Cons

Cappture solutions software enables you, the photographer, to link data with images thus speeding up production time and giving you the tools to create bespoke products, e.g. composites, star/rotational composites, school database images and many more…

We at Halsys recognise that not every solution is right for every photographer.  With that in mind we have several options for the bulk image photographer to link data with their images.  Below are the pros & cons for each so you can make an informed decision which one is best for you:

ID Shoot

ID shoot is the “Rolls Royce” of capture solutions.

  • COMPLETE END-TO-END SOLUTION

  • EDITABLE DATA AT THE TIME OF PHOTOGRAPHY

  • ERROR CORRECTION IN REAL TIME.

  • ABILITY TO PRINT PROOFS ON THE DAY

  • CREATE IMAGES FOR THE SCHOOL DATABASE WITH PUPILS’ ADMIN NUMBERS.

  • MEANING THAT WHEN YOU HAVE LEFT THE SCHOOL YOUR JOB IS DONE!

How it works

With your laptop tethered to your camera and a barcode reader attached, you can read a pupil’s barcode then take as many pictures as you need.

The images will appear on the laptop and will be large for easy viewing and editing.

If the data is incorrect you can change it and edit out unwanted images. You can also see how many pupils you have photographed and how many you have left to do, although this can be a pro and a con!

Scan & Merge

Scan and Merge uses a revolutionary, ultra-mobile, camera integrated barcode reader to drastically improve your productivity while on a shoot.  All it takes is a simple scan and shoot.

How it works

Using the scanner attached to the bottom of the camera, either half press the shutter button or press the button on the reader to activate, read the barcode for the pupil, and then photograph the pupil.

The configuration within the camera can be set to either:

  • scan then continuously photograph or

  • one barcode scan one picture

then repeat for the next pupil. This will embed the pupil’s admin number directly into the jpeg EXIF data to be linked back later with their information. This can now be imported directly into MaxLab.

QR Workflow

QR code capture solution requires the least amount of extra hardware – none.  Because of this, any photographer who has access to the tickets (which can be emailed to them) can photograph the school.  This is particularly useful if there is a last-minute change of photographer!

Please see our last blog (click link here) for more details about our QR code workflow.

Although our system is very good at reading QR codes it can’t perform miracles, so care should be taken to photograph the QR code well. This doesn’t mean it needs to be a full-frame closeup: just that there needs to be a reasonable exposure and focus as you’d expect.  Just to illustrate how good the QR recognition is, here are some examples of poorly photographed codes that our system was able to read.

We also give you the tools to be able to manually enter data at the post-processing stage, either by entering the QR code manually or editing the pupil’s data.

How it works

Photograph the pupil’s QR code and then take as many  photographs of the pupil as you need … then repeat. The data is linked later via the QR code.
